•Sun Requirements: Full sun

•Soil Preferences: Prefers moist, well-drained soils but is adaptable to dry conditions once established

•Lifespan: Long-lived perennial

Host Insect:

Serves as a host plant for the liatris borer moth.

•Attracts numerous pollinators, including butterflies, moths, native bees, beetles, and hummingbirds

•The flowers are a rich nectar source for long-tongued bees such as bumblebees and leafcutter bees.

Companion Plants:

•Echinacea purpurea (Purple Coneflower) – Complements the spiky flowers with large, daisy-like blooms.

•Rudbeckia hirta (Black-Eyed Susan) – Provides a bright contrast with yellow flowers.

•Asclepias tuberosa (Butterfly Weed) – Supports pollinators and shares similar growing conditions.

•Schizachyrium scoparium (Little Bluestem) – Adds movement and texture to prairie plantings.

•Solidago speciosa (Showy Goldenrod) – Extends the nectar supply into late summer and fall.

Ecological Importance:

•Pollinator Magnet: One of the best native plants for butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.
